About Omenka GalleryThe Omenka Gallery was established by The Ben Enwonwu Foundation in pursuance of its objectives to preserve and build on the life and work of renowned Nigerian artist, Professor Ben Enwonwu MBE, NNOM (1917-94), while increasing the visibility and appreciation of modern and contemporary Nigerian and African visual art. Omenka is one of the leading galleries in Nigeria and represents respected established and emerging contemporary Nigerian artists working in diverse media. Through its vigorous programme of solo, group and large themed exhibitions accompanied by exquisitely produced catalogues and books, the gallery stimulates discourse around contemporary art developments in Nigeria. In addition, it acquires work by Ben Enwonwu and other significant Nigerian and African artists to form part of our permanent collection. Omenka is also extending its participation in major art events and collaborating with international galleries on exhibitions, as well as workshops and residencies to promote cultural exchanges and encourage curatorial and professional artistic development. Omenka has a year-round educational programme which explores Enwonwu's art and practice, the cultural and social content context of his works and links to contemporary themes. Our programmes also support community and youth focused development such as school tours, internships, workshops and summer art camps. |
